Apple’s FaceTime Upgrade Could Make Phone Calls Obsolete

In its yearly announcement of new products and software, Apple released some improvements to FaceTime across all its platforms, Endgaget reports. Among those, Apple will allow Apple TVs to display FaceTime calls while relying on an iPhone camera to deliver your own video feed.

Another FaceTime update is the release of one way video message in case the other party cannot answer at the time of the call. This integration between different mediums (written, audio, video) and their apps seem to be trending towards a universal information flow accessible in different ways.

FaceTime is often cited as a key factor drawing consumers to choose iPhones over Androids.   1. NO, this COULD NOT make phone calls obsolete. That claim is even LESS plausible than the claim, 30+ years ago, that computers will make paper obsolete.
