Slate Auto Reveals Stunning New EV Pickup for Under 20k Set to Undermine Tesla

Slate Auto, a new electric vehicle startup backed by Jeff Bezos, has now launched an analog EV pickup truck designed to stand out from the Tesla model.

This affordable and customizable vehicle, which can transform from a two-seater pickup into a five-seater SUV, emphasizes simplicity with features like manual windows and no main infotainment screen.

The company aims to price the truck under $20,000 after federal tax credits, targeting budget-conscious consumers.

During the launch event in Long Beach, California, Slate Auto’s executives highlighted their commitment to affordability amid rising vehicle costs driven by high-tech features.

Chief Commercial Officer Jeremy Snyder stated, “The auto industry has been so focused on autonomy and technology that it’s driven prices to a place most Americans can’t afford.”

CEO Chris Barman added that they are delivering the affordable vehicle that many have promised but failed to produce.

The truck is equipped with a 52.7 kWh battery, offering a range of 150 miles, with an optional larger battery providing approximately 240 miles.

While it has a lower towing capacity than competitors like the Ford F-150, Slate emphasizes customization, offering over 100 accessories for buyers to personalize their vehicles.

Notably, the truck comes unpainted, allowing customers to apply wraps themselves, which reduces manufacturing costs.

Slate Auto has raised over $111 million and is focused on domestic production, positioning itself as a viable alternative in a market that has seen several startups falter.

With nearly 400 employees, the company is betting on a unique approach: prioritizing low-cost vehicles while encouraging extensive personalization to attract a diverse customer base.

Barman expressed confidence that their truck will be “a vehicle people are actually going to love and be proud to own.”
