Here’s How To Claim Walmart Settlement Money

Walmart has settled a lawsuit for overcharging customers, which means those affected can expect a form of payout. Between 2018 and 2024, customers were overcharged for products sold by the weight.

Products included in the settlement are mostly meat, pork, seafood, and oranges. Receipts are not required, though the payout will be limited in those cases. Fox Business says:

A lawsuit filed in October 2022 alleged that customers were charged more for certain sold-by-weight products and bagged fruit than the “lowest advertised per pound/ounce price,” according to a copy of the suit obtained by FOX Business.

This includes certain sold-by-weight meat, poultry, pork and seafood products and certain organic oranges, grapefruit, tangerines and navel oranges sold in bulk in mesh or plastic bags.

The end date to submit a claim is June 5, so consumers will have to hurry. Business Insider says:

Anyone who has done some grocery shopping at a Walmart in the US or Puerto Rico between October 19, 2018, and January 19, 2024, should try to remember if they’ve bought oranges or a package of pork chops recently.

If this sounds like it applies to you, you have until June 5 to submit a claim — either online or by mail — to be paid back. For those who are sticklers about saving their receipts, it’s your lucky day.

Walmart is not the only company facing these kinds of lawsuits, but this won’t affect its bottom line or reputation among its customers.
