Major Event Rocks Chat GPT

OpenAI, the company behind Chat GPT, has let go its CEO and Founder Sam Altman. OpenAI has been on a steady rise for the past year, led by Chat GPT’s chatbot model. It has kicked off a new AI arms race that has all other tech companies scrambling.

Altman’s departure could create a panic at OpenAI, with workers leaving for more stable companies working on their own AI Chatbots. With the immediate production of new features, Chat GPT could stay popular and continue to grow. NY Times reports:

Sam Altman, the high-profile chief executive of OpenAI, who became the face of the tech industry’s artificial intelligence boom, was pushed out of the company by its board of directors, OpenAI said in a blog post on Friday afternoon.

The move set off a reshuffling at OpenAI, a groundbreaking A.I. company and the maker of the popular chatbot ChatGPT. Mira Murati, previously OpenAI’s chief technology officer, was named interim chief executive officer, the company said. Hours later, Greg Brockman, the company’s president, said he was quitting.

The cause of Altman’s departure was not stated, except for a lack of confidence in his abilities. Chances are that new details will be reveled over time. The Verge has the statement:

“Mr. Altman’s departure follows a deliberative review process by the board, which concluded that he was not consistently candid in his communications with the board, hindering its ability to exercise its responsibilities,” the company said in its blog post. “The board no longer has confidence in his ability to continue leading OpenAI.”

Chief technology officer Mira Murati will be the interim CEO, effective immediately. The company will be conducting a search for a permanent CEO successor. When contacted by The Verge, OpenAI’s communications department declined to comment beyond the blog post. Employees at OpenAI found out about the news when it was announced publicly, according to multiple sources.

Open AI is not a large established firm like Google, Amazon, or Apple. It cannot afford to fail in AI if it wishes to remain relevant.
