Elon Musk’s Starlink Could Be in Gaza Soon

Elon Musk is offering satellite internet to aid organizations in Gaza. Starlink has proven to be a resilient technology in the Ukraine conflict, enabling Ukraine to maintain communications despite being attacked by Russia.

Musk would still need to provide Starlink terminals to users in Gaza. Getting the technology into Gaza seems to be the hardest part of that plan. Fortune reports:

Elon Musk’s Starlink will provide connectivity to “internationally recognized aid organizations” in Gaza, the SpaceX CEO indicated on Saturday. That followed communications going down in Gaza amid intensified Israeli bombardment.

Starlink is the satellite-broadband unit of Musk’s SpaceX, which dominates the market for commercial space launch. Its user terminals have proved crucial in helping Ukraine repel Russia’s invasion, allowing troops to communicate with each other and leaders in Kyiv despite attacks on communications infrastructure.

The US Government could ban the export of Starlink to Gaza, but this would incur the wrath of the Pro-Palestine faction in the Democratic Party.

Israel’s communications minister, Shlomo Karhi, later responded to Musk’s post on X, saying Israel would fight against the SpaceX CEO’s effort to offer Starlink to Gaza.

“Israel will use all means at its disposal to fight this,” Karhi said in the post.

Israel’s distrust of the technology could be fearing for its troops’ security. Palestinian supporters are already accusing Israel of wanting to hide war crimes.
