Following Apple’s iPhone event, Microsoft unveiled its latest hardware from the Surface lineup. Devies range in price from $00 to $2,000 depending on specifications.
Microsoft’s foray into hardware has generally been seen as positive. Its Surface tablet-laptop hybrids are also popular for remote workers who need a lightweight device with enough computing power. The Verge reports:
Microsoft just showed off its new high-end convertible laptop, the Surface Laptop Studio 2, at its launch event in New York City. The Laptop Studio 2 keeps the overall aesthetic of its predecessor, including the pull-forward 14.4-inch display that makes it a much more touch-friendly device but adds some welcome power-user features.
The Studio 2, which starts at $1,999, runs on Intel’s 13th Generation chips — specifically the i7 H class — with an Nvidia RTX 4050 or RTX 4060 GPU inside. It also has an Intel Neural Processing Unit, or NPU, which is the first Intel NPU in a Windows computer. (There were rumblings that Microsoft might be making this chip itself, but it appears not.) You can configure it with up to 2TB of storage and 64 gigs of RAM. In all, Microsoft says it’s “the most powerful Surface we’ve ever built” and promises twice the performance of the previous device.
Microsoft’s differentiation is in its application of AI for the workplace. As part of Windows 11 OS, Microsoft’s “Copilot” is able to generate art and help with work tasks such as spreadsheets.CNBC continues:
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella began the event by speaking about how the company’s Copilot AI tools will make a broad impact across its user base for consumers and enterprises.
“I mean, it’s crazy,” he said. “It’s kind of like the ’90s are back. It’s exciting to be in a place where we’re bringing some software innovation and really having fun enjoying this entire journey.”
AI is in full swing with all the Big Tech firms. Open AI’s Chat GPT, still the leader in the field, is in competition with Microsoft’s Copilot, Google’s Bard, Meta’s Llama, and Apple’s Siri Intelligence.
