Meta has reportedly launched a standalone AI app designed to compete with ChatGPT, following its earlier integration of AI features into platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger.
The new app was unveiled at Meta’s LlamaCon event and aims to provide users with a personalized AI experience.
What sets Meta’s AI apart from competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic is its ability to leverage extensive user data gathered over the years.
The app can utilize information users have voluntarily shared on Meta platforms, including their interests and social connections.
This personalization allows the AI to deliver tailored responses based on individual profiles and engagement history.
Currently, the app is available to users in the U.S. and Canada. Users can also provide additional details about themselves, such as dietary restrictions, which the AI can remember for future interactions.
For instance, if a user mentions being lactose intolerant, the AI could adjust its recommendations accordingly.
In addition to personalized interactions, the app features a Discover feed that allows users to share their experiences with friends.
This could include fun interactions, like asking the AI to summarize their personality in three emojis. However, users retain control over what is shared in this feed.
While the app introduces innovative features, users should be mindful of how their data is utilized, as Meta relies heavily on user information for its advertising business.
The app seeks to tap into current generative AI trends while emphasizing user preferences and social sharing, positioning itself as a significant player in the evolving AI landscape.
